Final Scene 'What if? Metropolis and Reflective Statement

Lambert (no shading)
There are few things to be said about my final render and the tasks required for its completion. I will start with the initial travelogue excerpt to give some kind of idea of my vision:

The main idea was to draw attention to the separate elements of the picture, like an advertisement would. Herbert Leupin was a very subject based artist, focusing on individual items such as typewriters or pens. To expand on his style he also used a lot o cartoon-ish elements early in his career, and later, alongside his more realistic representations. The latter style would become the foundation of the design of the final render mainly though the use of UV mapping. Second in my visualisation of Leupina was to understand how the elements in the scene were to compliment each other through the use of composition, something easily done by sketching thumbnail references.

Reflecting on my criticisms on Friday I think I understand a little more about how I could've made this idea better understood by any viewers. To begin I should've seen it coming but the scene look less like a city ad more like a desk, probably because of the lack of windows or other diminutive objects, this is very easily rectified. To solve this I should look back on my production art specifically of the typewriter with the door o the side. Another thing I remember hearing was of the subject matter being 'aggressive' ; I am of the understanding that this may of been in reflection of the bold red I used for the books and the snake. Maybe something like green in my revision would be better, or perhaps just a lighter or darker tone of red just to highlight the enterprising nature of this portion. Lastly I will look at improving the quality of my matt painting, seeing as a lot of my classmates took elements of their foreground to extend their cities. I think it will be good to have the paper stacks lit in the same fashion so I may do the same since mine is a night based scene.

As my reflective statement I now have deeper understanding of the processes behind developing studio quality images of landscapes. If I was to do something better would try to make better use of my thumbnails in my process. In fact it would be imperative to the point of giving each stage an equal amount of attention so I may create a proper final piece. In all I am glad to have taken part in this part of the course because of points previously listed, and I feel that as a result of progress I will be able to produce a better final piece on the next project.

Important! Please Read!

I will be unable to upload consistently over the Christmas period due to lack of cheap accessible internet in the Falklands. This will last two weeks. The only internet I will be able to use will be on the military base in Stanley, maybe twice a week, so please recognise that. Thanks.
