Hand Drawn Thumbnails

These are several of my hand drawn thumbnails for the cities project I doing right now. I hand drew them in my spare time, so I could remember what was in my head at the time before I could transfer them for further study in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. This can be a good way to preserve images in the brain before digital design, since I am not too comfortable with those programs yet.

When I thought about the project I was attracted to the details and structure of the city in question. I imagined it being in an arching valley, with a floor barren of woodland but filled with shrubbery, like the plains at the New Forest in Southampton. The structure of this valley would provide extra support to the struts of the city itself, on top of that, the increased altitude of the terrain would mean that the cloud layer would be closer.

To add to that idea of height I described in the paragraph above, I drew mountains in the background. Although not snowcapped, I wanted to keep the idea of the culture of these people in my head, I wanted them to be some kind of sun worshipping people like beach bums or something like that. They would wear nothing but trunks and bikinis, and be extremely tan and orange, due to their lifestyle. I like this idea not since it's comical, but because I think it's original. The thing is I think a lot of other people might have chosen this city, so I wanted to try to stand out using a more original idea.

I'll upload more thumbnails when I get access to the downstairs computers. For some reason I can't access my files from other computers if I've already saved them on one computer. I've already bought a memory stick, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. Catch yer round.
