'Baucis' The City Lost in the Clouds Thumbnails

Today's Thumbnails for 'Baucis', the city lost in the clouds. These thumbnails are more design based than composition orientated. I really would like to get more familiar with the mechanic of Photoshop so I could create more angular or crisper shapes like the lecturer does during class. You can see here in these how I focus on using colour more than perfect shapes through analysis, but I do want to see the differences I could make with those kind of skills.

I often look by the philosophy un-perfect shapes for what it's worth, because that's how things are in real life, to be honest. I'm not being defensive, it's just the way I'm seeing things right now. I want to see what kind of stuff I'll accomplish on a matt brown or grey palette, which is definitely a possibility with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop colour tools. I think the reasons I see things in a brighter palette could be linked with my preference in the medium of ink, or how i see things in my head before emptying it out onto paper. In the future I intend to experiment more in my thumbnails to create aesthetic distinctions between my cities.

  1. There's a real 'cartoony' dynamism to some of your thumbnails on here - they feel very alive and energised. Just a thought though - if this is Baucis - city on stilts - would they be making their buildings out of stone, as some of the pyramids seem to be?

  2. Hi Anabel,

These are really interesting - I particularly like the 1st image on the second row. Try to remember to number your thumbnails, as it makes it so much easier for people to comment on them...

  3. Hi there Anabel! I'm Eva, I'll be mentoring you for a while n' hopefully be able to help you with some friendly advice & tips here and there. (`・ω・´)”

They are definitely an interesting set of thumbnails - and what you've said about aesthetic distinctions between cities is the right mindset! (It'll push your ability to be creative-quickly to the test for sure.)

I would like to give some advice toward the design of your blog ! There's plenty of time yet, and so please consider this gently,
it would be nice to see your blog design show more of your personality through it. As an extension of yourself so that when a visitor comes onto your blog it's an experience for them rather than a plain one - or even worse an eyesore !

I'll give some examples to better illustrate what I'm talkin' about below. It doesn't need to be ridiculously complicated, and often for blog clarity simple can be great.
