| Re-Design me! |
In this workshop we were looking at character design and how separate elements come together to create their appearance. To further understand this topic we were tasked with re drawing an existing character in a variety of different way. The point was to understand how things like story links back to the character, and how different styles can define the genre. For example a more muscular or gritty version of the character may be more suited to an action based genre, and a cuter version would be better suited to children.
For this particular exercise I was more focused on the design aspect of my character, re shaping Tigger into different forms was a very interesting experience. But more importantly I was interested in how professional concepts are explored through handling the pencil. I've noticed that depending on how rough the original idea might be, the harder the pencil is handled, creating multiple lines all across the figure simply to pathfind. I used to do this a lot when deciding what pose I wanted, and more often than desired I would end up with a messy figure to finish, with too many suggestive lines that led to nowhere. I'll need to reevaluate how I do this if I want to create better pictures.
