Some quick mixed compositional/detailed sketches for the cities Isaura (top), and Armilla (bottom). I might just stretch my capability a little more tonight to see what else I could do, since I'm not too happy with my results yet, although I have managed to achieve a lot with the marquee and lasso tools tonight. Gonna attempt to use those exclusively in the next set.
It's nice you've started to use more colour - though I think you need to consider what colour can mean. For example, if Isaura (and also Armilla) evoke a certain mood for you, what are the colours used showing to reflect that. You often write about yourself in each of these thumbnail posts - which is totally great! But you should also key us in to why you're sketching what you're sketching. - What the description of the cities are making you feel.
ReplyDeleteFrom a technical standpoint also, try to use a full range of tone. You should get into the habit of checking your work in greyscale to make sure the tones are working.
I want to give a good example of a "green" painting that isn't overly neon: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/PXd4L
But also because if you put the works in greyscale you can see how he uses a full range of light to dark. https://puu.sh/rym7c/1ef0d61002.png
Yours tends to stay in the midtone range. So if you use a full range of tone you will find it easier to "lead" the audience's eyes to where you want them to look. (For example in that above painting the eye is drawn to the bright green area with the smoke coming from the house and the dark silhouette of the figure.)
Hope this helps, if you have any questions please feel free to ask !
